Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II (超時空要塞マクロスII) is a arcade game based on the OVA and movie compilation of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again, developed by NMK with the cooperation of Gamest and published by Banpresto in 1993. Gameplay It is as a side-scrolling shooter unlike its predecessor Super Spacefortress Macross, and geared more towards competitive play. The player characters are still fixed per side: Player 1 is Silvie, Player 2 is Nexx. There are 10 levels total, split between the difficulty levels "Beginner" "Medium" and "Expert" respectively, with only the final level being shared by all. The overall game is built on a "score attack" system, requiring the player to meet the minimum quota indicated at the top-center part of the screen before time runs out. Failure to do so will result in a game over. Enemies will continue to appear even if the target score has already been achieved, moving to the next level only after the timer expires. This is also true for stages with boss fights. For co-op play, the sum of Player 1 and 2's respective scores contribute to the quota. The 1P vs 2P mode is set in a player-selected stage, with 9 out of the ten stages available. The object is to score higher than the other player within the given time. The winner will be granted extended play. Power-ups are still used to change forms, but the Battroid Mode is only seen for a short while when using the screen-clearing bomb (which looks more like a rapid missile barrage), meaning that the Fighter and Gerwalk modes are constant for most of the game. Mode power-ups picked while in the same form will increase attack power. If power is maxed out, it will become a bonus item worth 3000 points. There is no "Armored" form this time. Notes And Trivia In the mode select screen, Silvie and Nexx are written as "Serbee" and "Necks" respectively. Despite the OVA base being set in an alternate universe, Minmay Dolls and Tuna Heads make an appearance here as well, reprising their role as bonus point items.
