Congo Bongo

Congo Bongo is an extremely faithful port of Atari's famous jump-n-run platform arcade game, which in itself is a blatant ripoff of Donkey Kong, presented in Zaxxon-style isometric perspective. When the game begins, Bongo the gorilla just gave you, an innocent sleeping hunter, "hotfoot". Naturally, you vow revenge on Bongo for this cruel prank. Throughout four levels of the game, you will run, jump, and climb your way through a dangerous jungle while avoiding various animals and projectiles. The game includes the introductory animations and sliding screen transitions from the arcade level-- something not commonly seen in PC conversions. Gameplay is quite fun, although Congo Bongo suffers from the same problem of Zaxxon PC version: the very limited 4-color CGA palette makes it very difficult to gauge distances between objects, so any illusion of 3D is almost nil. Still, it is one of SEGA's better arcade conversions, and well worth a look for fans of the original. Thumbs up!
