NieR is an action adventure video game developed by Cavia, published by Square Enix, and is the first game in the NieR series. It was released in 2010 only on the Xbox 360 in Japan as Nier Gestalt (ニーア ゲシュタルト, Nīa Geshutaruto), styled as NieR Gestalt, and released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Europe and North America as Nier, stylized as NIER. Another version of the game was also made exclusively for Japan on the PlayStation 3, known as NieR RepliCant. The game is based in the same world and is only different in regards to Nier's appearance, his relationship with Yonah, and the year the game takes place. The game was released in Japan on April 24, 2010 and North America on April 27, 2010. NieR continues off the fifth ending from the game Drakengard. An indirect sequel, titled NieR:Automata, was released on February 23, 2017 in Japan, and March 2017 worldwide. A remake of the RepliCant version of the game was released on April 23rd, 2021.
